Double X Button Top |
Double X Button Top is the foundation upon which this series is constructed. A network of firm coils fills the core—it's built to withstand the constant loading and unloading of pressure. Carefully hand-tufted layers of cotton mean you only feel firm comfort, not the springs. Overall this bed offers unbeatable support for longer.

Core |
|
| Materials - Firm Innerspring Traditional Technique - Mounting Frame Lura-Flex™ Innerspring features a series of firm offset coils. The square head of offset coils allows the surface to contour more readily to your body's curves. Made with a smaller-than-average diameter, these coils deliver denser surface coverage, which translates into better support. Each coil is laced to surrounding coils with helicals so that your mattress remains firm for longer. |
| Material - Steel Edge Supports Traditional Technique - Fortifying Edge The edge of the mattress is fortified with steel edge supports to further increase firmness of the bed's edge. Our artisans take these extra steps so your mattress doesn't sag as your body presses the edges. Securing the edge with steel offers unbeatable firmness that adds more support to your springs, which in turn adds to the longevity of your mattress' life. |
| Material - Steel Grid Traditional Technique - Covering Coil Openings A steel grid is secured above the inner spring coil to deliver insulation. We use the Steel Grid Posturizer™ Perm-A-Lator ® which is a grid forming 1-inch spaces. This grid evenly distributes the weight of your body across the entire mattress. As a result natural upholstery materials are protected from the durable springs ensuring that your upholstery never cups into the springs. These 19-gauge wires are oil-tempered for an extra spring-like movement. |
| Material - Insulator Pad Traditional Technique - Insulating Coils Above the steel grid a durable cotton felt pad is laid by hand. This insulates movements, adds a soft touch to further protect your upholstery from the springs below. By insulating the coils, the surface of your mattress feels smooth and will remain so for long. |
Upholstery Layer |
|
| Material - Cotton Batting Traditional Technique - Cotton Upholstering and Inner-Tufting Quality cotton batting is laid by hand across the surface of your mattress. Cotton is a fiber that's naturally resilient. Over time it resists deterioration and breakdown unlike synthetic fibers. Cotton is also breathable and soft—making it the perfect choice for a clean, comfortable sleep surface. The traditional craft of hand-laying cotton creates an even upholstered surface. This long careful process requires our upholstery craftsman to carefully lay, stretch, wrap and tuck this key layer over each mattress coil. After the upholstery is laid it is securely sewn to the core with a traditional upholstery method called tufting. In our workshop we tuft cotton batting and the coil core by hand for two reasons. This process compresses your springs so they remain resilient for longer. It also pre-packs the cotton upholstery—by pushing the air out of the cotton we've created a condensed layer of comfort that will remain dependably smooth for decades. |
Cover |
|
| Material - 100% Cotton Ticking Traditional Technique - Button-Tufting & Tape-Edging and Embroidery A cover made of 100% cotton fabric is secured to the surface of your mattress. Creating a tight surface, natural cotton ticking offers the perfect complement to the firm foundation below. This traditional material is soft and breathable. Allowing air and heat to circulate, this exterior helps your bed remain cool when your body is warm and warm when your body is cool. Once the final tier of comfort is secured, our artisans conduct a few more upholstery techniques to finish it all off. They seal the edge of the comfort topper with an overlocking stitch. Above this they stitch a narrow piece of fabric around the edge, creating a beautifully hand-sewn welt that lines the entire mattress perimeter. To doubly secure all layers, our artisans button-tuft the entire mattress by hand. A large needle is used to lace strong nylon thread from one side of the mattress to the other. Spaced about 8-inches apart, each tuft further compresses your mattress, ensures each layer stay in place throughout its long life, and helps your mattress last longer. As a result, sleepers enjoy a smoother surface that doesn't sag, buckle or pack. To finish each tuft, an elegant button fashioned from thread is placed on the exterior. |
