The Trudell Family Story

Coming from a family of ten children, Mel and Marty Trudell learned early that hard work and commitment are a natural part of life.

While still in their early teens, the Trudell brothers began working in a small mattress factory.  Their part-time jobs allowed them to assist their family by purchasing items for themselves not normally within the family budget, like bicycles and new school clothes.  Their jobs at the mattress company also afforded them another benefit — they were given the opportunity to learn the mattress business from the inside out.

During those early years at the mattress factory, Mel and Marty paid close attention to detail.  They noticed that standards within the mattress manufacturing industry were dropping steadily each year.  Quality and craftsmanship were quickly being discarded in favor of profits and clever advertising schemes.  By now, the two brothers were working for one of the large, national mattress companies.  Their requests and suggestions to improve product quality were consistently ignored and dismissed by management.

In the 1980's the Trudell brothers decided it was time to start their own company.  They pooled their savings and opened their first mattress factory in Santa Ana, California with the commitment of restoring a craftsmanship approach to mattress construction.  From the beginning the Trudells employed materials and methods of higher quality and expense than industry standards.  However, through low overhead and careful budgeting they were able to provide customers with better quality mattresses at factory-direct savings. Their success has attracted thousands of loyal customers and praise from consumer reporters in the media.

Custom Comfort Mattress Company has now grown to seven locations — in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, Mission Viejo, Fullerton, Orange, Huntington Beach, Corona, and Anaheim Hills.  Each store is operated by a member of the Trudell family.  Today, as in the beginning, the Trudells remain committed to craftsmanship and superior, friendly service.  They have earned the trust and loyalty of their customers, providing mattresses that are built to last.
